Sosúa: It is a town along the northern coast of the Dominican Republic in Puerto Plata province. It is formed by Charamicos enclaves, a Dominican popular neighborhood and El Batey, where most of the hotels and shops are found. It is at 25 km east to Puerto Plata city and 15 km from Gregorio Luperón International Airport.
In El Batey, initially administrative offices, barracks, houses and a wharf were built by the United Fruit Company in the early of the twentieth century. Nearby there was a sentry box belonging to Santiago de los Caballeros' Spanish garnish.
Since 1940 and long before, the Dominican Republic has been a shelter for Jews who introduced the dairy and meat industries which nowadays is the economic engine of the city.
About 20 years ago, Sosua used to be a quite fishing village with only one hotel. Today it is considered one of the most important tourist resorts of the Dominican Republic's north coast because of its the significant progress in terms of corporate work, and spectacular attractions.
